Pine Valley Country Club, Wilmington, NC.

Spence Golf and its SG construction crew broke ground in January 2026 on the classic remodel and renovation of this private 18 hole golf course. This project will have new putting surfaces, redesigned bunkers, sandy blowout areas, native grasses added to out of play areas, extend tee complexes, install new drainage and irrigation systems.


Fiddlesticks Country Club, Fort Myers, FL

18 Hole “Long Mean” Course renovation project. Clark Golf Course Construction is leading the charge, joined by Nutt Irrigation, and Ragan Technical Solutions. Template hole style features, influences from Donald Ross’s philosophy on and around the putting surfaces, and a few Scottish revetted bunkers will be installed to pay homage to the Scottish theme of Fiddlesticks Country Club. Bimini Bermuda surfaces and Tif3D greens will be put in.


Raleigh Golf Association, Raleigh, NC.

Started in April 2025 and in partnership with McConnell Golf, Spence Golf is leading a $3.5 million renovation to the stockholder’s nine, the 18 hole public course, and the driving range/performance center. New putting surfaces, bunkers, irrigation and pumphouse, tee complexes, and tree removal are currently in progress.


Hound Ears Club, Boone, NC.

After the travesty of hurricane Helene pummeled through the golf course, Spence Golf and its construction crew have been participating in helping the club recover by designing and restoring putting surfaces, reconstructing the bunkers using capillary drainage, regrading and reseedings fairways, and relocating tee complexes.

 

Recently Completed Projects:

 

Wildcat Run Golf and Country Club, Estero FL
– (Summer 2023) SGI Provided Golf Course Architectural Design, Consulting and Project Oversight.

Developed the Master Plan and completed renovation to this 1985 Arnold Palmer – Ed Seay designed private country club in SW Florida.  The project included resurfacing all putting surfaces to TifEagle Bermuda, re-grassing the entire course to Bimini Bermuda, remodeling and reconstructing bunkers with Capillary Concrete liners, installing extensive drainage in fairways for firmer playing conditions and installing a completely new concrete cart path system course wide.  Additionally, a new short game complex was created near the clubhouse campus along with well-defined target greens on the practice fairway.  Clarke Construction General Contractor.


Dunedin Golf Club, Dunedin FL
– (Summer 2024) SGI Provided Golf Course Architectural Design, Consulting and Project Oversight.

Developed the Master Plan to restore this 1926 Donald Ross designed course for the City of Dunedin, FL.  The project scope included the complete restoration of 18 Donald Ross green complexes to their original elevations, shapes, sizes, orientation and contours.  87 Ross bunkers were fully restored along with all tees expanded and updated for the modern game.  Additional work included the installation of a new Toro 2 wire irrigation system course wide, installation of an extensive sub-surface drainage system to remediate constant flooding on holes 15/17 situated along a tidal creek fed from the Gulf of America.  The course was replanted to TifTuf bermudagrass on tees, fairways and roughs to help address limited irrigation supply. Kahkwa Club, Erie PA
– (Summer 2023) SGI Provided Golf Course Architectural Design, Consulting and Project Oversight.

Developed a Bunker Restoration Master Plan to restore 55 bunkers on this 1916 Donald Ross designed course.  The project included the restoration of all bunkers which included original bunker locations, modified locations for advances in the game, added bunkers and select bunker removals.  The bunkers were constructed with Capillary Concrete Liners and Pro Angle Sand.  Additional work included putting surface remediation on holes 17 and 18 to soften excessive sloping and very limited hole location availability.  General Contractor Hollembeak Construction.


Holston Hills Country Club, Knoxville TN
– (Summer 2024) Spence Golf Inc completed the restoration of over 100 bunkers on this historic 1926 Donald Ross design in eastern TN. 

The scope of work focused on reshaping the bunkers to the philosophical approach practiced by Donald Ross.  Surface water was entering the bunkers from outside surfaces causing excessive washing after rain events.  Capillary Concrete liners were installed, Pro Angle sand installed, new TifTuf sod surrounds and reshaping to the Ross specifications, orientation, shape and size.


Starmount Forest Country Club, Greensboro, NC

– (Fall 2025) Spence Golf and its SG Irrigation Division broke ground January 2025 on the classic remodel and renovation of this private 18 hole golf course that was originally designed in 1930 by the architectural team of Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek. The project took the golf course back closer to its traditional style and classic roots with new putting surfaces, redesigned bunkers, expanded tee complexes, new drainage systems, installation of an HDPE pipe/Toro 2 wire irrigation system and newly installed grassing schemes course wide with putting surfaces planted to Tifeagle Ultradwarf Bermudagrass, Tahoma 31 bermuda on approaches and green surrounds. TifTuf Bermuda on fairways and roughs and Zeon Zoysia on laser levelled tee tops. Additional out-of-play areas received native grasses.


Jackson Country Club, Jackson TN

– (Fall 2025) Spence Golf prepared a master plan and designed/oversaw the comprehensive 18 hole restoration of the historic Langford/Moreau private club. The completed project included newly reconstructed TifEagle putting surfaces, TifTuf fairways and roughs, Zeon Zoysia laser levelled tee tops, restored bunkers, enhanced bunker schemes, strategic L & M mounding, extensive tree and shade removal, enhanced drainage in key areas and a new Rainbird IC irrigation system.


Woodlake G & CC Maples Course, Vass, NC

– (2023) A 1971 Ellis Maples/ Ed Seay entire course renovation. Spence Golf was called in to renovate the Maples course after the damages from Hurricane Matthew drained the lake in 2016, and the course went into foreclosure in 2021. Spence resurrected the dilapidated course by rebuilding the bunkers, installing a new irrigation system, adding native areas, restoring putting surfaces sprigged with Tif Eagle, while still preserving Maples’ charm.
